This month, our First to Serve team spent time at the Humane Society — and it was anything but ordinary. From walking dogs and cleaning kennels to simply sitting with animals that needed a little extra attention, every small action added up to something powerful.
There’s something grounding about showing up for creatures who can’t ask for help but clearly need it. We saw wagging tails, nervous eyes, and hopeful hearts — and we were reminded why we do what we do. Service doesn’t always look heroic. Sometimes, it looks like a clean blanket, a warm bowl, or just being still with a scared animal until they feel safe.
Volunteering at the Humane Society wasn’t just about helping animals — it was about reconnecting with compassion, patience, and purpose.
